Hasta La Muerte: A Theatrical Tribute to Da de los Muertos
Oklahoma City Community College will showcase "Hasta La Muerte," a moving theatrical tribute to Da de los Muertos, on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Visual and Performing Arts Center. This two-act performance, created by Las Cafeteras, pays homage to the Indigenous and Mexican customs of honoring those who have passed away through an engaging mix of original and traditional music, dance, poetry, and theater. The narrative follows La Catrina, the Patron Saint of the Dead, as she guides souls to the afterlife while interacting with legendary folkloric figures like La Llorona and La Bruja. Hector Flores from Las Cafeteras notes that the performance resonates with those who have felt loss, emphasizing that death signifies continuity rather than an ending. This vibrant production intertwines Mexican folklore with modern themes, celebrating resilience and love, ensuring a memorable cultural experience for the audience. Tickets range from $40 to $75, with additional handling fees.
